Environmental Services
At Water Environment, our team of specialist engineers and scientists have a broad range of expertise in environmental issues; from nutrient neutrality to river geomorphology to environmental consenting. Please see below for further details of our environmental services. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Nutrient Neutrality
Achieving nutrient neutrality often requires mitigation in the form of onsite treatment or by offsetting nutrient loading. Water Environment delivers NNAMS, nutrient mitigation design, and nutrient credit schemes, with extensive experience of cases across England.
Flow & Water Quality Monitoring & Sampling
Baseline flow and water quality data are essential for environmental assessments and permitting. We procure and manage monitoring programmes, analyse results and present findings in support of planning and consent applications.
River Geomorphological Survey & Assessments
Understanding a river's physical form and processes is critical to good design and WFD compliance. Our services include River Corridor Walkovers, River Condition Assessments, River Habitat Surveys and Fluvial Geomorphological Assessments.
Water Framework Directive (WFD) Assessment
Any works which could affect the hydro-morphology, ecology or water quality of a classified waterbody require a WFD Assessment to demonstrate how impacts will be mitigated and waterbody status enhanced.
Water Resources Assessment
Water Environment advises on water resources from small-scale developments to large engineering schemes, including drought event analysis and planning, rainwater harvesting design, and catchment water balance analysis.
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
We have extensive experience of the EIA process, preparing the Water chapter covering all aspects of water resources, hydrology, hydrogeology and flood risk, as well as contributing to non-technical summaries.
Air Quality Assessment (AQA)
Required for developments in or near Air Quality Management Areas, our assessments use detailed atmospheric dispersion modelling with ADMS Roads to quantify impacts and inform mitigation strategies.
Catchment Management Plans
At a strategic level, entire catchments require planning to manage water resources, ecology, development and flooding. Our engineers and scientists have broad experience across all aspects of catchment-scale hydrological management.
Environmental Permits, Licences & Consents
We advise on and apply for all consents related to works in or near watercourses, including Flood Risk Activity Permits, Ordinary Watercourse Consents, Abstraction Licences, Discharge Permits and Land Spreading Licences.
Expert Witness
Our specialists provide independent expert witness evidence on nutrient neutrality, air quality and designated site hydrology for planning appeals, public inquiries and legal proceedings.
